Baylor among 'Healthiest 100'

Healthiest 100Baylor College of Medicine has been named one of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America by Springbuk, a health analytics company, ranking No. 20 on the annual list. Organizations honored as healthiest workplaces have achieved lasting success through a wide array of employee wellness initiatives and corporate wellness programs. Med students compete at ultrasound event

Rachael MuschalekJason XuPeter YunThird-year medical students Rachael Muschalek, Jason Xu and Peter Yun came in second in the Sonolympics, an educational competition in ultrasonography held at Long Medical School at UT Health San Antonio. The competition included a timed quiz where participants answered questions based on ultrasound images and videos and a hands-on portion that included ultrasound scanning on standardized patients based on clinical scenarios, followed by a 10-minute debrief with residents and attending physicians.

Genetic Counseling student honored

Abigail YessoAbigail Yesso, a student in Baylor's Genetic Counseling Program, recently was accepted to the 2020 Texas Society of Allied Health Professions' Student Leadership Development Program. This six-month program focuses on building professionalism, management and leadership skills in first-year graduate students in health professions programs. She was one of only 10 students selected for the program.

Dec. 11: Staff Town Hall

A Staff Town Hall meeting will be held Wednesday, Dec. 11, at noon in Cullen Auditorium. Presentations by President and CEO Dr. Paul Klotman, Joe Doty and Jennifer Tessin will cover staff survey results follow-up information, Defining Pathways and Possibilities implementation and an update on the Mosaic Project. Dec. 11: Bioethics Grand Rounds

Baylor's Dr. Christopher Scott and Claire Horner, J.D., will present Bioethics Grand Rounds on "Seeking access to experimental treatments: Is it really my right to try?" Dec. 11 from 5 – 6 p.m. at Houston Methodist's Rio Grande Conference Room. Geared to physicians, nurses, physician assistants, social workers and other members of the patient care team.

Nominations open for faculty awards

Nominations are open for the Clark Faculty Service Award honoring outstanding faculty who have not previously been recognized by the College. See the Clark Award site for full details; nominations due Dec. 16. There is also still time to submit nominations by the Dec. 13 deadline for the Corbin J. Robertson Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education, the College's top educational award for faculty.

Nominations open for Women of Excellence

Nominations are being accepted for the Women of Excellence Awards, which will be presented during Women's History Month in March. Nominees can be women and men, faculty, staff and trainees who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to issues that affect women at Baylor College of Medicine or in the larger community while also exemplifying Baylor values. Team Launch faculty instructors needed

Baylor faculty, postdoctoral basic science/non-clinical and clinical fellows, and residents are needed to serve as Team Launch instructors beginning in January 2020. Responsibilities include assisting Team Launch facilitators with execution of the Launch Pad course for Baylor students in early 2020 and offers the opportunity for developing skills in teamwork, active learning and educational assessment. Baylor a leader in Alzheimer's Walk

The 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer's – Houston was held Nov. 2, with great success by the Baylor team. Led by Dr. Mark Kunik with walkers from the Huffington Center on Aging and the Baylor community, it was the No. 3 team in Houston, raising more than $47,000 for Alzheimer's awareness, resources, care and research. Way to go, Baylor walkers! There's still time to donate.

TMC Library news

Due to construction in the Jesse H. Jones Library Building, entrance to the TMC Library will be temporarily moved to the west side of the building facing Webber Plaza for the next few months. Follow construction updates on the library's Instagram account.
