Astros win the World Series!

Congratulations to the 2017 World Series Champion Houston Astros! Baylor College of Medicine is showing its pride in the team by proudly flying the team flag and a congratulatory banner at the Cullen Building. Take a photo of you and your colleagues in front of the banner and send it to Nicole Blanton by 1 p.m. on Friday to be featured on Baylor's social media channels. Don't forget to include your names and departments. History earned!

Monroe to be honored for contributions to science education

Dr. Alicia MonroeDr. Alicia Monroe, provost and senior vice president of academic and faculty affairs, is being honored by the Association for Women in Science – Gulf Coast Houston Chapter for her significant contributions to science education and promotion of STEM careers. She will be recognized at the Outstanding Women in Science Seminar Series, Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. in Baylor's Cullen Auditorium, with a reception to follow. The event is free but please RSVP online.

Baylor honored as top workplace

Baylor College of Medicine was awarded a 2017 Top Workplaces honor by the Houston Chronicle. Baylor was ranked No. 27 in the large-company category. The award was based on the results of an employee feedback survey. Winning companies will be featured in a special supplemental section of the Houston Chronicle and online. Baylor also was a recipient of a 2017 Optimas Gold Award from Workforce magazine. The College was honored in the area of workplace culture for its BCM BeWell program that promotes employee wellness. Compassion and the Art of Medicine lectures

The Compassion and the Art of Medicine series continues today, Nov. 3, with Dr. David Buck, professor of family and community medicine and founder of Healthcare for the Homeless - Houston, discussing healthcare for the underserved. Next Friday, Nov. 10, Dr. Richard Lyn-Cook, assistant professor of family and community medicine, will present a talk titled "9 Millimeter," about his recovery from a gunshot injury. Both talks are at noon in Cullen Auditorium.

Weekend fitness for a cause!

Stay fit this weekend and support good causes! Join the Baylor Booty Shakers team for Get Your Rear in Gear to support colon cancer awareness, or sign up for Alex's 5K in support of autism programs. Both events are tomorrow, Nov. 4.

Celebrate allied health professionals and genetic counselors

National Allied Health Week is Nov. 4 – 11. Baylor recognizes its allied professionals and educational leaders for their important contributions to healthcare. Nov. 9 is Genetic Counselor Awareness Day. Stop by the genetic counselor table outside the cafeteria between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to learn about the important and supportive role genetic counselors can play in your healthcare and about the School of Allied Health Sciences' new Genetic Counseling Program at Baylor.
