Emergency Relief Fund

A Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund has been established, kick-started with donations from College leadership and members of the Board of Trustees. If you experienced damage and loss from Harvey, you may apply for financial assistance online. All members of the Baylor community are invited to contribute to the fund online.

Many members of the Baylor family have been impacted by the storm and need immediate help cleaning up their homes. Many others want to help those in need. A program has been developed to match needs with services.

Blood drive at Baylor St. Luke's extended

The blood drive at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, 6720 Bertner Ave., has been extended through today, Sept. 1, at 4 p.m. Donate at the Denton A. Cooley Auditorium on the lower level of the Texas Heart Institute, near the green elevators. Donations are important since Hurricane Harvey and the associated flooding are impacting the city's blood supply. Donors will receive a Starbuck's gift card or a voucher.

Back-up care

Benefits-eligible employees who are facing childcare or eldercare issues can access the Back-up Care Advantage Program offered through Human Resources. The program can help identify a caregiver or provide a possible reimbursement to hire a caregiver within your own personal network, such as a relative, babysitter or friend. Contact the Back-up Care Advantage Program at 877-242-2737 or register and reserve care online.

BCM Federal Credit Union assistance

Credit union members may request extensions on payments due for auto and other unsecured loans, which will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Requests can be sent to April Comeaux at acomeaux@bcm.edu.

Resources for students

Students covered under the Aetna Student Health plan have access to OnCall International which provides services for medical evacuation and repatriation when traveling 100 or more miles from your primary residence. Students can review additional information on accessing this OnCall benefit. All students have access to the Aetna Resources for Living benefit to assist with emotional support during this difficult time. Questions? Email ask-studentinsurance@bcm.edu.

Volunteer Time Off

Members of the Baylor community who are interested in volunteering with flood relief efforts following Harvey may be able to use Volunteer Time Off, which provides one paid day off (8 hours) per year to volunteer in the community. The 30-day approval requirement for Volunteer Time Off has been waived. Submit the Volunteer Time Off form to your supervisor for approval.

Big thanks to ride-out team

Ride-out team

A group of Baylor employees, including those from facilities, security and the Center for Comparative Medicine, stayed on the main campus from Friday, Aug. 25, through Wednesday to ensure that the building remained safe during the catastrophic storm. Four radiologists joined the ride-out team, providing imaging services to affiliated institutions. President, CEO and Executive Dean Dr. Paul Klotman thanked the ride-out team in person Wednesday morning as the campus reopened, telling the team that they represented "the best of Baylor College of Medicine."

- Teaching Portfolio Workshop: The Norton Rose Fulbright Portfolio Preparation Workshop on Friday, Sept. 1, has been canceled and will be rescheduled by the Office of Faculty Development.
- Photo Sessions: The free photo sessions scheduled for Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 5-8, have been canceled and will be rescheduled by the Office of Communications.
- Building a Sustainable Research Program: The presentation by Dr. Brendan Lee, Robert and Janice McNair Endowed Chair in Molecular and Human Genetics, on Thursday, Aug. 31, has been canceled and will be rescheduled by the Career Development Center.

Next week has been designated as BCM Wellness Week and a variety of events have been planned to mark the occasion. See the schedule of events.

Compassion and the Art of Medicine Sept. 8

Dr. Jeffrey Steinbauer, professor of family and community medicine, will present "A Primary Care Career: The View from the Rearview Mirror," Friday, Sept. 8, at 12:10 p.m. in Cullen Auditorium. He will take a look back at his career, from serving as a small-town physician to his role at Baylor.
