Awards and Recognitions

Sedgwick earns Love Award

Dr. Emily SedgwickDr. Emily Sedgwick, associate professor in the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center, part of the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, received the 2016 Ben and Margaret Love Foundation Bobby Alford Award for Academic Clinical Professionalism, an honor given annually to a Baylor physician who best exemplifies professionalism in the practice of medicine. Sedgwick has dedicated her career to improving healthcare and making the breast cancer treatment process more streamlined and less intimidating for patients. One of her most significant accomplishments has been building and implementing a same-day program in the Breast Center, which allows a patient to receive a mammogram, get results and, if necessary, have a biopsy on the same day, without having to make separate appointments or leave the clinic. Sedgwick, who also is chief quality officer for the Baylor Faculty Group Practice, received the award at the School of Medicine White Coat Ceremony Aug. 12, where she delivered a talk on professionalism.
