Allison presents on program coordinators at annual conference

Melodie Allison, academic administrator in the Department of Pediatrics, spoke at the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education annual New Program Coordinators Conference, held in Chicago July 25. Her presentation was titled "A Year in the Life of a Program Coordinator: Superhero Version." The presentation focused on a coordinator's yearly schedule, including responsibilities in addition to accreditation.

Brunner earns NIH grant

Dr. Gerd BrunnerDr. Gerd Brunner, assistant professor of medicine, was awarded a five-year, $2.89 million Research Project Grant (R01) from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, for his research on magnetic resonance imaging and machine learning in patients with peripheral artery disease, a malignant form of atherosclerosis.

Baylor doctors listed as top docs

Baylor physicians are included in Houstonia magazine's fifth annual guide of the city's top doctors, covering 70 specialties. Find the list in print in the magazine's August edition or online.

Aug. 11: Houston Playback Theatre launches Compassion series

The annual Compassion and the Art of Medicine student elective and lecture series hosted by the Department of Family and Community Medicine is under way with the first public lecture on Friday, Aug. 11, at noon in Cullen Auditorium featuring Houston Playback Theatre. In this unique production, an audience member tells a story from their life, chooses actors to play the different roles, and then the story is recreated and given artistic shape.

Aug. 18: Deadline to sign up as team captains for softball tourney

The RIITE Rewards Program, BCM BeWell and the BCM Federal Credit Union will co-host a softball tournament for Baylor employees and students on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Houston Sportsplex. Team captains are needed to recruit players and organize co-ed teams. If you are interested in serving as a team captain, submit the request form by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18. Integrity Hotline outage for maintenance

The company that provides the Baylor College of Medicine Integrity Hotline will be upgrading its system on Friday, Aug. 11. During this time, no new cases will be able to be reported via the Integrity Hotline web portal or by phone. If you have any incident that needs to be reported during this time, please contact your supervisor or department or school administrator. The Integrity Hotline will be available Saturday, Aug. 12.

Help researchers find a chikungunya vaccine

Researchers at the BCM Vaccine Research Center are looking for volunteers to participate in a study evaluating a chikungunya vaccine. Chikungunya is a virus that is transmitted to humans by mosquitoes. Participants must be 18 to 45 years old and in good general health. The study includes in-person and telephone appointments. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 713-798-4912. Time and travel will be compensated.
