Mosaic Project Update

Countdown to Aug. 5 SuccessFactors launch

Success Factors, the new application for the College's human resources functions, including time management and self-service updates, will launch Aug. 5. Make sure you're ready by following the steps below as they apply to you.
-Non-exempt hourly employees, approvers/supervisors of these employees and department staff who perform HR activities should complete time-management classroom or online training. Look in your inbox for an email about this training from sap-mosaic-training@bcm.edu or ask your Mosaic department sponsor.
-Training resources, multi-factor authorization information and other helpful resources for employees can be found on the Mosaic website, where you also will find the SuccessFactors system login that will be active starting Aug. 5.
-Drop by a Mosaic HR Open Learning Lab to practice your skills or ask questions. See schedule.
-Department sponsors are your first point of contact for help. They are a liaison with the Mosaic HR project team and will be equipped with key information/tools for the SuccessFactors launch. See a list of sponsors. For other questions, email sap-mosaic@bcm.edu.

Hanania recognized as expert in spirometry

Dr. Nicola HananiaDr. Nicola Hanania, associate professor of medicine - pulmonary, recently was recognized as an Expertscape World Expert in spirometry, a pulmonary function test that helps identify asthma, COPD and other conditions. Experts listed by Expertscape are those who have demonstrated their expertise and knowledge of a field by writing articles that are published in the medical literature.

Kuy named health innovator fellow

Dr. SreyRam KuyDr. SreyRam Kuy, assistant professor of surgery, has been named an Aspen Institute Health Innovators Fellow. The prestigious two-year fellowship is designed to strengthen the leadership of innovators across the U.S. healthcare system and challenge them to create new approaches to improve the health and well-being of all Americans. Kuy is a surgeon at the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the deputy chief medical officer for quality and safety for the South Central VA Health Care Network.

Zoghbi honored for achievements by ASHG

Dr. Huda ZoghbiBaylor's Dr. Huda Zoghbi is being honored with the 2019 Victor A. McKusick Leadership Award from the American Society of Human Genetics. The award recognizes professional achievements that have fostered and enriched the development of human genetics as well as its assimilation into the broader context of science, medicine and health. Zoghbi will receive the honor, which includes a plaque and $10,000 prize Wednesday, Oct. 16, during the organization's 69th Annual Meeting at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Aug. 3 CME conferences on liver disease, spinal surgery

Baylor Drs. Norman Sussman and John Vierling will co-lead the 20th Annual Hot Topics in Liver Disease Conference, Saturday, Aug. 3, Marriott Marquis Houston, offering the latest information on management and treatment through plenary sessions, a keynote talk, exhibits and more. -Spino-Plastics Reconstruction Conference, Aug. 3, Baylor College of Medicine Medical Center on the McNair Campus, for physicians, fellows and residents, physician assistants and nurses, with a focus on the latest in spine surgery and plastic surgery technologies to treat patients with spine-related problems. Aug. 6 – 8: BCM BeWell Presentation on employee engagement

Join one of the presentations below about how to build employee engagement and connection to one another as part of overall well-being, led by Jesse Gavin, wellness team leader. Employees who attend can earn 100 BCM BeWell Vitality points. Questions? Email wellness@bcm.edu.

Aug. 22: Symposium on research and response after Harvey

Hurricane Harvey – 2 Years After: A Symposium, will be held in Cullen Auditorium Thursday, Aug. 22, 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The symposium will highlight and provide an update on research and organizational activities that occurred during and after the storm, including response to psychiatric issues, environmental exposures and other chronic health issues. Mayor Sylvester Turner will present a proclamation to Dr. Cheryl Walker and former county Judge Ed Emmett will be recognized. See more and register online.

Save the date: Tobacco cessation training for providers

The Department of Family and Community Medicine will host Tobacco Cessation Training, Saturday, Sept. 14, 8 a.m. – noon, 3701 Kirby Drive, suite 600. Topics will include pharmacotherapy, motivational interviewing and shared decision making on lung cancer screening. What did you do on summer vacation?

China Trip

Dr. Eric Storch, professor, and Ben Chang, administrator, both in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, started the summer off at Shanghai Mental Health Center, where Storch conducted a three-day training on cognitive behavioral therapy for OCD for clinicians. Nominate 2019 STAT Wunderkinds

STAT Wunderkinds honors the brightest young minds in life science for their work in academia, industry, and in the clinic. These Wunderkinds will be invited to the STAT Summit later this year and recognized at a cocktail reception and will be featured in STAT, a national online publication focused on health, medicine and scientific discovery. Nominations must be submitted by Sept. 3, 2019.
