Echeverria honored for teaching excellence
Dr. Alfredo Echeverria, assistant professor of radiation oncology, has received the 2020-2021 Educator of the Year Award from the Association of Residents in Radiation Oncology. This award recognizes his excellence in teaching, enthusiasm and support for residency training in this specialty. He was nominated by the radiation oncology chief resident.
Mills elected society VP
Dr. Joseph Mills was elected vice president of the Society for Vascular Surgery for 2021-22 at the society's annual business meeting, held virtually on June 16. Mills is professor and chief of the division of vascular surgery and endovascular therapy.
School of Medicine leadership
Leadership changes have been announced in the School of Medicine. Dr. Nadia Ismail has been named senior associate dean for curriculum; Dr. Andrea Stolar will serve as senior associate dean of student affairs; and Dr. Lee Poythress is now associate dean of student affairs. All three have served many roles in the School of Medicine prior to these new positions.

"Telesimulation, Teledebriefing, Telementoring, Tele-what?" is the topic of a presentation by Dr. Rami Ahmed, professor of emergency medicine and simulation division chief, Indiana University School of Medicine, at noon July 7, via Zoom. Quality improvement programs
Opportunities are available for BCM and affiliated faculty, staff and trainees in the area of quality improvement, including a six-workshop QI intermediate course and an advanced level QI certificate program. Deadline to apply for either program is July 11; both are free of charge and offer CME. Find more information on both programs, and email CCIT-mgmt@bcm.edu with questions.
Autism webinar on early intervention and research
The SPARK for Autism program at Baylor and Texas Children's will host an autism webinar on "The Importance of Early Intervention and Research," Friday, July 30, noon – 1:30 p.m., presented by Dr. Jennifer Chang-Tran, a Houston pediatric neuropsychologist. The local SPARK team is part of Dr. Robin Kochel's Lab for Clinical Autism Research. Register to receive Zoom link.

BCM @ Houston Food Bank
A group from BCM spent a volunteer day at the Houston Food Bank on Tuesday, June 29. Sixty-five faculty and staff members participated, sorting and filling boxes with food for Houston families in need. Inclusion Excellence training
BCM has launched a new training required for all employees and learners. The e-learning course, Inclusion Excellence: A T.E.A.M. Approach, focuses on the College's commitment to inclusion, highlights data to support the advancement of inclusion in a biomedical institution, provides a historical context for exclusionary practices in the U.S and offers strategies to achieve an anti-bias environment. The training can be accessed through SuccessFactors and must be completed by Aug. 4.
