Work guidelines if sick

Remember that if you are feeling sick, stay home. Read the full guidelines regarding continuing to work/returning to work when you are sick and the appropriate steps to take. If you need to be evaluated for COVID-19 by a healthcare provider, contact Baylor Medicine's coronavirus triage line at 713-798-3888 or complete this form.


Awards and Recognitions

Amos earns research prize

Dr. Chris AmosDr. Chris Amos, director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and associate director of quantitative science at the Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center, was honored with the 2020 AACR-American Cancer Society Award for Research Excellence in Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention. Amos is recognized for his expertise in biostatistics and bioinformatics, genetics and cancer epidemiology.

Yun named Pew-Stewart Scholar

Dr. Jihye YunDr. Jihye Yun, assistant professor of molecular and human genetics, is one of five researchers named to the 2020 class of the Pew-Stewart Scholars Program for Cancer Research. Yun will receive a four-year grant to decode the molecular connection between sugary drinks and the development of colorectal cancer.

New leadership roles announced

Several new leadership roles at Baylor College of Medicine have been announced: Toni Gray, director of Title IX and disability services; Dr. David Rowley, assistant dean of foundational sciences in the School of Medicine; Dr. Jesus Vallejo, associate dean of admissions, diversity, equity and multicultural affairs; and Dr. Mark Harbott, designated institutional official (DIO) and senior associate dean of Graduate Medical Education. June 23: Blood drive

Don't forget about the blood drive for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, Tuesday, June 23, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the Baylor Gym, 8th floor of Garage 6, at main Baylor. Due to social distancing requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic, appointments are required. Schedule online or call Lauren Warren at 713-798-7968.

June 25: Compassionate Conversations

Two Compassionate Conversations will be held via Zoom on June 25, from noon to 1:30 p.m. and from 5:30 to 7 p.m., to address important issues related to racism and inequality, and community healing. Both discussions will include remarks from Baylor President and CEO Dr. Paul Klotman, an overview of resources that are available to the Baylor community, and a presentation on the "8 Rs of Racism." Following these presentations, attendees will have facilitated small-group discussions, then reconvene to present feedback. Register online by Monday at 5 p.m. so that you can be assigned to a small group for discussion. CME available.

Submissions open for Brody Award in Bioethics

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2020-2021 Baruch A. Brody Award & Lecture in Bioethics. The Baylor College of Medicine Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy, Houston Methodist and the Rice University Department of Philosophy are pleased to renew this international $10,000 award and named lectureship in Baruch Brody’s memory. Nominations are due August 7. More information on how to nominate someone can be found online.

Deadline approaching to complete compliance training

There are less than two weeks left to take this year’s required Annual Compliance Education, which focuses on our Code of Conduct. BCM employees must complete the education through SuccessFactors by June 30, 2020, or may be subject to disciplinary actions.
