Award and Recognitions

Chakraborty receives career development award

Dr. Rikhia ChakrabortyDr. Rikhia Chakraborty, assistant professor of pediatrics - oncology, has received a Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program Career Development Award, part of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs that foster novel approaches to biomedical research. The award provides support for her research on "Cancer immunotherapy as treatment option for Langerhans cell histiocytosis."

Nielsen named 'Health Care Hero'

Dr. Peter NielsenDr. Peter Nielsen, professor and vice chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor and obstetrician-in-chief at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio who specializes in maternal-fetal medicine, received a San Antonio Business Journal Health Care Hero Award for Outstanding Hospital-based Physician. CHOSA is one of Baylor's academic affiliates.

Rosengart appointed to AATS board

Dr. Todd RosengartDr. Todd K. Rosengart, professor and DeBakey-Bard Chair of Surgery at Baylor, was elected to the Board of Directors of the American Association for Thoracic Surgery at the 2019 Annual Meeting, held earlier this month in Toronto. In addition, Baylor College of Medicine was named to the Top 20 Institutional Honor Roll by the Thoracic Surgery Foundation. This accomplishment signals the strength of the College's cardiothoracic program, institution leadership and faculty and staff.


Events

June 5: DocTalk on kidney stones

The next DocTalk is Wednesday, June 5, noon, Kleberg Auditorium at main Baylor, with Dr. Wesley Mayer, assistant professor of urology, on preventing and treating kidney stones. DocTalk is a series of informal talks with Baylor experts on a variety of health topics. Eligible employees can earn BCM BeWell Vitality points.

June 15: Run for Research Awareness

Run for Research Awareness with Baylor's Team Beastmode. This Virtual 5K helps support Homes for Animal Heroes, a program of the National Animal Interest Alliance that places retired research dogs in permanent, loving homes. You also can participate in the fun run at 8:30 a.m. June 15 in Hermann Park.

June 18: Health Equity Research Summit

The 2019 Center of Excellence in Health Equity, Training and Research Summer Research Summit is Tuesday, June 18, exploring current topics in health equity research, education, clinical care and outreach and featuring a keynote talk by Dr. Patrice A. Harris, president of the American Medical Association. The event also will include a health equity research showcase. Open to physicians and other healthcare professionals, researchers, staff and trainees. Online registration is $35; students and trainees, $10. CME credit will be offered.


College News

Prepare for the Mosaic HR launch: Employee fairs start June 11

The new application for human resource management, SuccessFactors, part of the broader Mosaic project to transform the College's business processes, will launch this August, replacing some portions of the Employee Self-Service (ESS) tool and SAP HR functions. Unlike the current ESS, SuccessFactors will require Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) if accessed outside the BCM network. This includes users accessing SuccessFactors from affiliate locations and from home. Get ready for this transition now by ensuring that you have completed MFA registration and activation. Read the MFA instructions. You also can get MFA help from an IT representative, learn more about Mosaic HR and SuccessFactors, and get giveaway items at information fairs being held at multiple locations in June. Take part in admissions interviews

The Office of Medical School Admissions is seeking nominations by June 24 for the 2019-2020 Admissions Interviewing Subcommittee. The subcommittee is charged with interviewing and evaluating applicants from varied backgrounds and with varied values, beliefs, interests, experiences and cultural viewpoints to ensure a diverse student body. 2019 Commencement

Baylor's 2019 Commencement was held Tuesday, May 28, where 158 students from the School of Medicine received their degrees and 103 students from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. In addition, four honorary degrees were awarded, including to Dr. Ruth Simmons, who delivered the commencement address. See photos and video from the 2019 commencement ceremony.
