Coronavirus Information

Updated campus guidelines

The Incident Command Center has updated COVID-19 guidelines for Baylor College of Medicine. Remember, masks still are required in all areas unless physical distancing can be maintained. Report workplace safety concerns related to COVID-19 to your supervisor or through the BCM COVID-19 Workplace Safety Concerns app.

  • Gathering Guidelines: Workplace gatherings are limited only by room capacity; however, rooms must support 6-feet physical distancing. Food no longer needs to be individually wrapped.
  • Screening Guidelines: Hand sanitizer is available at all building entry screening stations but will no longer be mandated upon entry.
  • Visitor Guidelines: Initial candidate interviews should be conducted virtually. Final candidates may have an onsite interview following BCM safety guidelines.
  • Travel Guidelines: Starting July 1, medical education learners can travel inside the United States to elective rotations. CDC guidelines remain in place for personal travel. BCM continues to not sponsor business travel unless an exception has been granted.

Awards and Recognitions

Greeley to serve on AAP committee

Dr.  Christopher GreeleyDr. Christopher Greeley, professor of pediatrics at Baylor and head of the Section of Public Health and Child Abuse Pediatrics at Texas Children's Hospital, was elected to the executive committee of the Council on Community Pediatrics of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The council seeks to promote health equity and address social determinants of health by supporting community pediatricians in clinical care, advocacy, education and collaboration with families.

Lerner appointed to NCI committee

Dr. Seth LernerDr. Seth Lerner, professor of urology, recently was appointed to the National Cancer Institute Clinical Trials and Translational Research Advisory Committee. The committee serves as an important external oversight committee that advises NCI leadership on research enterprises.

Martin receives grant for pediatric heart transplant research

Dr. James MartinDr. James Martin, professor of molecular physiology, received a nearly $700,000 grant from the American Heart Association and nonprofit organization Enduring Hearts for his project "Early Detection of Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy in Post-transplant Pediatric Hearts via Single-Cell Genomics." This marks the initial funding from these organizations aimed at improving pediatric heart transplant outcomes, part of a $3 million initiative.

Rosen recognized for mentoring, leadership

Dr. Ted RosenDr. Ted Rosen, professor of dermatology, is this year's recipient of the Texas Dermatological Society's Robert G. Freeman Mentoring and Leadership Award for his outstanding service to patients, colleagues and the field of dermatology. He was honored virtually at the society's spring meeting on May 1.

Smith to lead deans' assistant group

Jamie SmithJamie Smith, executive coordinator in the School of Medicine, has been name chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges Deans' Assistant Group. The group's mission is to improve communications among medical schools through in-person and virtual networking and help deans achieve their goals.

Mark calendars for E/M Workshop

A Zoom training with the Office of Compliance will be offered on May 11, 7 – 9 a.m., to review the updated 2021 Office/Outpatient Evaluation & Management (E/M) guidelines. BCM BeWell nutrition presentation

BCM BeWell will host "How to Navigate Your Child's Nutrition During a Pandemic," Tuesday, May 11, at noon. BCM registered dietitian will discuss principles of good nutrition and the impact of media, schedules, work and chaos on nutritional habits of family. Register to receive Zoom link. Hem/Onc Research Symposium

The fourth annual Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program Research Symposium is Friday, May 14, 12:30 – 3:30, via Zoom (Password: 831342). The event will honor research fellows Drs. Samer Al Hadidi, Adanma Anji Ayanambakkam Attanathiw, Nan Chen, Robert Davis, Nicole Higashiyama, Katherine Linder and Yang Xiao with a keynote talk by Dr. Matthew Ellis, professor and director of the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center.

Autism webinar on adolescent challenges

The Spark for Autism program at Baylor and Texas Children's will host a webinar, Friday, May 14, at noon, on "Navigating the Challenges of Puberty and Adolescence for Youth with Autism," with Dr. Holly Harris, assistant professor of pediatrics. She will discuss preparing families and individuals with autism for adolescence, setting social boundaries, using visual aids/modeling and setting appropriate expectations. COVID research and prevention symposium

The Gulf Coast Center for Precision Environmental Health and BCM are hosting a COVID-19 Disaster Research and Prevention Symposium on May 19 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The virtual event will feature speakers from Houston and France for an international perspective on the COVID-19 crisis. IT News: Comp Portal login

As BCM moves to a more modern and secure system to secure IDs and passwords, users who have the Microsoft Intune Company Portal iOS app (labeled as "Comp Portal" on your iPhone/iPad) may receive a request to log on again with their BCM username and password. For any users with customized settings (i.e., disabled mail or calendar), these settings may be reset to their default state and require you to customize.
