Lakkis leads successful heart failure outcomes program

Dr. Nasser LakkisDr. Nasser Lakkis' partnership with the American Heart Association Get with the Guidelines program at Harris Health's Ben Taub Hospital has led to an invitation for him to chair a session at the April AHA Quality of Care and Outcomes Research conference. He will share the team's experience with the program, which focuses on improving heart failure outcomes. The program's success also was featured in the AHA quality improvement email newsletter. Lakkis is a professor of medicine in the section of cardiology at Baylor.

Feb. 1: Wear Red Day

On Friday, Feb. 1, Baylor will participate in National Wear Red Day in support of the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign, a nationwide movement to fight heart disease in women. Be sure to take a photo of you and your colleagues wearing red and send it to anna.kiappes@bcm.edu by 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, to be featured on Baylor's social media channels.

Early bird registration open for bioethics course

Registration is open for the Intensive Bioethics course, to be held April 29 – May 3. Sponsored by Baylor's Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy and Houston Methodist Hospital, the course is geared toward individuals who encounter complex ethical challenges in the healthcare setting and wish to receive advanced training. Register by Feb. 15 to receive the early bird special tuition discount! CME credits will be offered. Learn more and register online.

Call for abstracts

-Abstracts focusing on the health and wellness of physicians, trainees and the academic medicine workforce are being accepted for the poster session at the Texas Medical Association’s Physician Health and Wellness Exchange, which will be hosted by Baylor College of Medicine on March 2. Students, postdocs, residents, fellows, faculty and staff are eligible to submit; deadline is Jan. 31. See more information and guidelines.
-Abstracts and posters submission is open for the 10th Annual Frontiers in Digestive Diseases Symposium, March 2 at Onstead Auditorium with talks by experts from Baylor and other institutions. Submissions can be related to any digestive diseases research; cash prizes available. Learn more and submit online by Feb. 8.
-Poster abstracts are being accepted for the Center for Ethics and Health Policy's Health and Science Policy Day, Tuesday, April 2, in Cullen Auditorium. Anyone doing policy-related work (defined broadly) has the opportunity to present their findings and get feedback and recognition for their work. Posters will be judged by a panel of faculty/researchers. Submit online by March 25.

Tickets available for Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

General Admission tickets and season passes to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, barbecue contest tickets and half-price carnival packs can be purchased in the Office of Communications, located in main Baylor, room 176B, through Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. Concert tickets are not available.
