Undiagnosed Diseases Network is a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded program under a research study created with the purpose of diagnosing the most challenging cases using advanced technologies, such as genomics. The UDN brings together clinical and research experts from across the United States to help patients who have not been given a definitive diagnosis through the most common of care methods. The BCM UDC hosts one of 12 clinical sites across the United States seeing patients for this study. Additionally, BCM runs part of the model organisms screening center for the UDN, where genetic changes found in patients are studied in Drosophila (fruit flies) to understand if they may cause disease. Genomic sequencing for the UDN is completed by BCM’s partner clinical laboratory, Baylor Genetics
