Keith Syson Chan, Ph.D., Joins SDU Faculty

Keith Syson Chan, Ph.D., has joined the Scott Department of Urology as an assistant professor with joint appointments in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology and Cell and Gene Therapy Program and a Scholar Award from the Dan L. Duncan Cancer Center.

Dr. Chan, who received his B.Sc. from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, came to BCM from a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, Stanford University, Stanford, California. Recipient of an NIH NCI Howard Temin Career Award (K99/R00), he is developing his research laboratory in the Jones wing of the Cullen Building. His research is focused on bladder cancer, cancer stem cells, cancer invasion and metastasis, and Stat 3 signaling.

Among his projects is the further characterization of bladder cancer stem cells in an attempt to identify therapeutic targets for invasive cancer.
