Dr. Lamb Elected VP of American Society for Reproductive Medicine

Dolores J. Lamb, Ph.D., stepped into the role of Vice President when the American Society for Reproductive Medicine held its 65th Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, Oct. 17-21, 2009.
Dr. Lamb is the first Ph.D. to serve in this leadership role and is the only urologic researcher and one of only a few women to be elected to this office. The organization has a membership of more than 9,000 members from 50 states in the U.S. and over 100 other countries; 50% are obstetrician/gynecologists. Only 7% are urologists, and only 7% are Ph.D.s. Other members are reproductive endocrinologists, embryologists, mental health professionals, internists, nurses, and other health professionals.
Acceptance of the office is actually a 5-year commitment as Dr. Lamb will move next to President-Elect, before becoming President, and then will serve as Immediate Past President and Past President.
Dr. Lamb, a Professor in the Scott Department of Urology with a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, holds the Lester and Sue Smith Chair in Basic Urologic Research. She is Director of the Laboratory for Male Reproductive Research and Testing and Director of the Special Procedures Laboratory. Among her many responsibilities is her role as P.I. for a multimillion dollar NIH K-12 Urologic Research Career Development Program and a multimillion dollar NIH Program Project Grant on the genetic basis of male infertility. Her most current research is focused on genetic causes of male reproductive failure and genitourinary birth defects; controls of spermatogenesis, and regulation of male reproductive tumors by vitamin D and androgens.
