Academic Programs
One of the nation's leading academic centers in urologic education, training and research, the Scott Department of Urology at Baylor College of Medicine, provides learning opportunities for medical students, urology residents, postgraduate fellows and practicing urologists.
Medical students are given the opportunity to work with departmental faculty in a hospital and clinic setting.
Residents are selected by the American Urological Association match that brings the best qualified urology residents to our six-year residency program. The residency program is Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education accredited and includes one year of surgery, one year of research and four years of urology training.
Postgraduate fellows come from leading institutions throughout the U.S. and abroad to extend their training in the field of urology.
Invited guest lecturers, department-sponsored conferences, Baylor-sponsored Continuing Medical Education and a variety of specialty-related courses provide practicing urologists an opportunity to continue their medical education.
The trainees are encouraged to participate in research activities in addition to their clinical training, and they are highly visible at national scientific meetings. This year residents and fellows co-authored 20 presentations at the annual meeting of the AUA, and they are regular contributors to meetings of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine, American Association for Cancer Research and The Endocrine Society.
