Subcommittees
Manuscript Subcommittee
The purpose of this subcommittee is to determine a formal process in using shared data for published research manuscripts and reports. The process will insure that proper credit is given to the authors, organizations and Coalition. The manuscripts or reports will be approved by the Subcommittee before publication.
The Chairman is Dr. Christine Koerner (UT, LBJ, MHH). Other members participating in subcommittee are Mary Frost (TCH), Dr. Yufang Zhang (HDHHS), Stephani Adams (HPHES), Cindy Kilborn (HPHES), Garry Rand (TxDOT), Long Ma (BCM), Dr. Rohit Shenoi (BCM), and Jennifer Jones (BCM). Meetings are scheduled as needed.
Submersion Subcommittee
The purpose of this subcommittee is to address the large number of submersions in the Houston/Harris County area through data coordination, research and community outreach.
We are piloting a project with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) to update the paper form and to create an electronic data collection system for the Submersion Registry. Our efforts include designing a database and data entry interface to test on a small scale. Once the data system is working well and approved by Texas DSHS, it will be used throughout State.
A Pool Patrol Program was initiatied last summer by the City of Houston Police Department who worked with the HTL Coalition to help identify areas of high submersion incidents and concentration of pools, to design a pool safety checklist, to design a informational brochure, and to analyze data collected. The City of Houston Police Department is conducting the pool inspections. This program will start Spring 2006. See more information on the Pool Patrol Program.
