Dr. Dornechia George is a BCM 06’ alumna. Dornechia has made ground breaking history in her selection as a BCM /Methodist Resident, being the first African American to fill this position in the history of the hospital.
As a third year medical student Dornechia was active in the community by volunteering with the Saturday Morning Science Community Outreach Program, designed to help middle through high school students from underserved areas in Houston get excited about math and science and eventually pursue careers in the biosciences.
"Through the science program and other outreach activities, we provide children and teens opportunities to explore careers in medicine, hopefully inspiring them to do well in school, to seek higher education, and to know that their dreams are attainable," George said.
Working with eager and interested young adults reminds me that we all have overcome great difficulties, whether academic, financial, social, or otherwise. We have an obligation to see that future students can surmount similar obstacles they may see in their own lives," George said.
Dornechia hopes to continue to give back to the community during and after her dermatology residency.
