BCM Researchers top Texas List of Stimulus Funds Recipients
When the National Institutes of Health issued its first report on federal stimulus funds for research, Baylor College of Medicine was at the top of the list among Texas institutions.
The first set of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grants, announced by the NIH in early October, showed Baylor with 115 separate grants, totaling $40 million. The college expects to receive additional awards, particularly in the areas of cancer, genetics and infrastructure.
Dr. Susan Hamilton, senior vice president and dean of research, said the funds provide a "tremendous boost for research."
The grants announced so far cover a wide range of research initiatives across Baylor departments. NIH will continue to update its stimulus funding website as new grants are awarded.
