Trustee Chuck Watson Makes Unique Gift

Many supporters of Baylor College of Medicine have developed their own style where giving is concerned. Recently, Board Trustee Chuck Watson elected to put his life insurance policy to work for the College.

Watson and his wife, Kim, donated a $10 million life insurance policy to BCM and pledged to continue the premiums. The value of the Watsons' insurance policy goes to BCM on their deaths and will fund the Watson Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Cardiology and the Charles L. Watson Endowed Chair in Cancer. Remaining funds will be designated for building projects.

"We're investing in the future of Baylor College of Medicine with a gift that will only continue to multiply," said Watson, Chairman of the Board of Eagle Energy Partners and a BCM Board Member since 2001.

The idea of putting insurance money into charities—the "Gift of Life" Insurance Program—is a growing trend that allows some donors to see good work being done during their lifetimes.

"We hope to see this gift stimulate others to try this option," said Watson. "If all of our donors, board, or regular supporters do this, an organization has generations of financial support."
