Removing Brain Tumors Through the Nose
Instead of splitting the skull, a BCM doctor can remove certain brain tumors through the nose. Using this method reduces the risk and recovery time for the patient.
According to Mas Takashima, M.D., Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology, this is an option for those with pituitary adenomas and meningiomas that are located near the base of the skull, just above the nose. The procedure uses tiny cameras and tools that drill through the thin bone in the nose and sinuses and cut and suction out the tumor.
