A Message from Dr. Traber

Peter G. Traber, M.D.Solutions, when they arrive, are wonderful things. They answer questions to problems that have plagued us for centuries, or they help us out of an immediate situation.

Solutions are not often easy to come by. They require thought, logic, research, common sense, and many times, they come only through teamwork.

The truth is that all of us at Baylor College of Medicine seek solutions. Whether it is the search for a new treatment for a devastating disease, the wherefores of project funding, the best way to handle a distraught caller, or improvements in laboratory technique - solutions make our lives easier and ultimately better.

Penicillin was a solution. So was the computer, as was frozen pizza. It is only through seeking innovative solutions to problems that we improve our lives and the lives of others.

And so - welcome to Solutions, a new magazine of Baylor College of Medicine published three times each year. In it you will find in upcoming issues stories on scientific investigation, the incredible advances being made in education, patient care and research through the beneficence of our supporters and alumni, and news from the laboratory and the classroom - stories that are representative of one of the nation's leading biomedical centers of learning.

In this issue you will find a special focus on the College's plans for the new Baylor Clinic as well as articles about groundbreaking scientific studies into epilepsy and stories covering Baylor donors and alumni.

I hope you enjoy this and future issues of this vibrant new publication. I am proud to introduce a magazine that features some of the many solutions that occur here on a daily basis at Baylor College of Medicine.
