New Logo Takes Center Stageby Lori Baker
The decision to change the logo was made during the College's strategic planning process. Key to the redesign was the graphic artist, who spent his career at a major marketing and advertising firm. During his career, he has created many logos still in use today, including the logo for Exxon. "Baylor College of Medicine is making dramatic changes in order to invent the future of medicine, and our logo needs to reflect this vision," said Dr. Peter G. Traber, BCM president and CEO. "The College leadership determined that the new logo should emphasize BCM as an identifier for Baylor College of Medicine, and we were guided by specific principles of strong logo design." Many logo hopefuls auditioned for the part, but the one cast in the role includes a new emphasis on BCM, new colors, and a new look. Although the new logo is composed of type, the letters have been specially designed to give the logo a unique appearance. The BCM Academic Council and Board of Trustees approved the new logo at their November 2004 meetings. "The new logo represents a very bold mark for the College and reflects the many exciting changes taking place as we implement our strategic plan," said Traber. |
