Baylor Clinic from the Inside Out by Ron Gilmore
Establishing a new adult outpatient center for Baylor College of Medicine has generated quite a buzz. There's talk of creating a new approach to patient care, infusing technology into the patient care experience, and incorporating new methods of teaching and research in an outpatient environment. These, and many other exciting ideas, are key to the transformation, but what about the more concrete details - the who, what, when, why, and where? Read on to find the answers.
In spring 2004, the Baylor Board of Trustees approved the development of Baylor Clinic. With available properties at 6620 Main and 6600 Main, plans for Baylor Clinic began with the assistance of outside consultants in space and planning and with the establishment of BCM groups and committees which began studying the project in depth.
These included an ambulatory planning work group, an IT advisory committee, a physician steering committee, and members of the BaylorMedCare® Board, as well as disciplinespecific user groups for dermatology, medicine, obstetrics & gynecology, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, and surgery. Other groups explored ambulatory planning, research, education and change management. The physician steering committee alone included more than 50 faculty members from a variety of disciplines.
While plans continue to evolve, particularly in regard to Phase II of Baylor Clinic, the picture is becoming clearer on how this complex project will take shape. Here's a quick look at what you can expect for each phase.
