Career Building Activities

During your nine-week stay at Baylor College of Medicine, you will have the option to attend multiple career building events. We organize these events to help you prepare for the next step after you complete your undergraduate education. SMART Program participants learn about career development, various career pathways and disciplines of study through seminars and discussion groups including workshops on applying to graduate school or medical school.

Individual career counseling is offered by BCM faculty and administrators to assist SMART participants in acquiring the information they need to make decisions about setting and achieving goals. Directors from all of the graduate programs and medical school deans invite participants to talk with them on an individual basis about the application process and their career goals.

BCM Graduate School Fair

Each summer, students and administrators from the programs of Baylor College of Medicine's Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences organize a graduate school fair. Booths vary in creativity and content but they all offer a great deal of information about their program through brochures/literature and Ph.D. students who share their insights.

BCM Graduate Department Sponsored Mixers

Different departments within BCM hold ice cream mixers, afternoon snack socials, and special tours specifically for SMART participants. So what can you expect at these events. Well, a great time talking with graduate students, admissions officers for the department and faculty. These events are a great way to get to know the graduate school programs and the students in the programs.

M.D./Ph.D. Night

Baylor College of Medicine's M.D./Ph.D. program invites SMART participants to attend an information meeting. The co-directors of the M.D./Ph.D. program and several M.D./Ph.D. students give SMART participants a rare and insightful look at the application process and the program itself. M.D./Ph.D. students from different stages in their training talk about their experiences. After the session, SMART participants are given an opportunity to talk with the students and co-directors.
