The LINC Course Houston 2008: Endovascular Neuroradiology Workshop and Live Cases Conference will
be comprised of individual presentations focusing on the newest endovascular techniques in the treatment of cerebrovascular
diseases. Plenary lectures are mixed with panel discussions about the medical, neurosurgical, and endovascular treatment of
aneurysms, AVMs, stroke, fibrinolysis, intracranial angioplasty, atherosclerotic carotid disease, etc.
Another exciting element is the live transmission of endovascular procedures. During these live transmissions, the audience
will be able to interact directly with the physicians performing the endovascular procedures. Each live case will be preceded by a
didactic lecture detailing the techniques of the particular procedure,
its pitfalls, potential risks and complications. At the end of each
procedure, the results will be discussed among the faculty and
the audience in an informal manner. The audience will have the
opportunity to ask questions and to discuss each case in detail with
the faculty.
The Technology Fair and the Hands-On Experience will be
offered once again. The Technology Fair is scheduled for Wednesday
afternoon, October 15, 2008. Individual companies will be offering
symposia on their most recent devices. This session is open to all
LINC Course registrants and is not designated for CME credit.
The Hands-On Experience is scheduled for Thursday
morning, October 16, 2008. During this session, participants will
have the opportunity to evaluate and test devices and techniques from multiple vendors that are either newly available or in the
late stages of development. This component of the LINC Course is limited to physicians only and is not designated for CME
credit. Space is limited.
Due to the nature of the LINC Course, the actual program of the Workshop and Live Case Transmission may vary,
depending on the actual schedule of patients.
NEEDS
New technological advances and the development of revolutionary medical devices, as well as the range and complexity of new
diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and techniques, place increasing demands on specialists in the field of Endovascular
Neuroradiology. Also, the increased focus on quality improvement and outcomes, as well as patient safety, has created a need
for evidence-based medical information and data to direct quality of care and development of standards and clinical practice
guidelines for techniques and devices. Thus, there is a critical need for leading-edge educational programs for specialists that
address the acquisition and maintenance of competence in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and techniques.
This conference is designed to provide an update on current diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and techniques, as well
as the future clinical application of emerging technologies. Based on a review of the literature and other needs assessment
sources, the Planning Committee identified major topic areas that need to be addressed.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This conference is intended for Neuroradiologists, Neurosurgeons, Neurointerventionalists, Neurologists, and Cardiologists.
OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:
- List the indications for the diagnosis and treatment of various neurovascular disorders using endovascular procedures
and techniques
- Discuss, describe, and explain the safe use of various endovascular devices such as stent coils, and polymers
- Explain the various potential complications that can result from endovascular procedures and how to handle them
evaluation
EVALUATIONS
Evaluation by questionnaire will address program content, presentation, and possible bias.
