Field Placement Fact Sheet

The Baylor Psychiatry Clinic is a training, research and service program for Psychiatric Residents, Social Work Interns and Fellows, and Clinical Psychology Interns. A placement at the Baylor Psychiatry Clinic offers training in dynamically oriented psychotherapy for adults in individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy. Other modalities of treatment include family systems, cognitive behavioral and time-limited problem-focused approaches. The clinic offers individual, couple, family and group treatment services on a sliding scale for a wide range of problems including relationship issues, grief and bereavement issues, mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders. The diversity of the client population served as well as treatment modalities utilized affords students a broad range of valuable Clinical and theoretical learning experiences.

While the Baylor Psychiatry Clinic is a psychiatric training facility, the importance of all mental health professionals is recognized and integrated into the program. The Social Work Field Placement at Baylor includes one social work faculty member, 3 to 4 second year graduate students in clinical social work and one postgraduate fellow in clinical social work, as well as the Clinic’s multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists and psychologists.

All interns will:

· participate in clinical activities, including evaluation and treatment of individuals, couples and families.

· receive three hours of individual clinical supervision per week with the director of Social Work Training and with two adjunct faculty social work practitioners in the community.

· devote time to community outreach, workshop development for individuals, partners, parents and families on a variety of subjects to be determined by the Clinic's needs and the intern's interests.

· attend weekly seminars, case conferences and classes on various psychotherapeutic topics, including psychiatry grand rounds, a multidisciplinary case conference led by experts in the field, as well as a clinical social work seminar.
