Mimi Leong, M.D., M.S., is a board-certified surgeon and assistant professor in the plastic surgery division of the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.
After earning her undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the University of California, Davis, where she graduated with honors, Dr. Leong earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania (MCP). She completed her general surgery residency training at MCP and the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, and her plastic surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Leong completed her general surgery research fellowship at MCP. She also participated as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Wound Healing Laboratory at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston, in the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery. Her research there has been the subject of several publications and presentations at national meetings and earned her a Young Investigator's Award (2004), given to the nation's leading young researchers. Most recently, Dr. Leong earned a Master of Medical Sciences degree from UTMB-Galveston.
She has been honored for her humanitarian assistance as a volunteer surgeon for Austin Smiles, a nonprofit organization that provides reconstructive plastic surgery to children in Texas and Latin America. Dr. Leong has participated in missions to Veracruz and Boca del Rio, Mexico.
She is a member of the Wound Healing Society, the Plastic Surgery Research Council, the Association for Academic Surgery, the Association of Women Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (Candidate), and the American College of Surgeons (Candidate).
