Comparative Pathology Laboratory

The Center for Comparative Medicine announces the restructuring of the Comparative Pathology Laboratory.

The Comparative Pathology Laboratory is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory under the direction of Alan Herron, D.V.M.. An experienced board certified veterinary pathologist, Roger E. Price, D.V.M., Ph.D., DACVP, is also available for consultation regarding research projects and for fee-for-service and collaborative gross and light microscopic evaluation of tissues. The laboratory is also staffed by highly qualified histology technician, an ASCP certified medical technician, and an experienced research technician.

Mission

The restructured laboratory is designed to provide high quality diagnostic services in an expeditious and timely manner to animal research investigators at the Baylor College of Medicine and allied institutions in the Texas Medical Center . The laboratory is also committed to providing complete diagnostic support to BCM laboratory animal veterinarians, who through their animal colony management and husbandry, animal shipping and receiving services, and animal health surveillance, maintain colonies of healthy high quality animals for animal research investigators at BCM.

The laboratory is also developing a close relationship to the new BCM Mouse Phenotyping Core and is dedicated to providing seamless post-imaging tissue processing and Imaging Pathology support

Services

Histopathology:

• A full-service histology section, equipped for paraffin and frozen sectioning and staining with routine hematoxyln and eosin stain and numerous special and immunohistochemical stains

• Tissue photographic and photomicrographic services

Clinical Pathology:

• Blood chemistry and electrolyte profiles

• Hematology

• Non-blood tissue evaluation

• Urinalysis testing

• Parasitology

Imaging Pathology:

• Validation of imaging data through correlation of actual gross and histopathologic findings with imaging data

• Confirmation of in situ locations and tissue relationships and orientation
