TEXAS MEDICAL CENTER
The Texas Medical Center is the largest and most comprehensive medical complex in the United States. It is made up of 47 public and private institutions, and while each is governed by its own board, all cooperate in providing the common goals of patient care, community service, research and education. In addition to Baylor College of Medicine, the Center includes four general hospitals, five specialty hospitals, a school of public health, a graduate school of biomedical sciences, two degree-granting schools of nursing, a joint medical library, and a variety of other institutions, organizations and resources committed to patients' well-being.
By encouraging the extension of medical and health related knowledge through research and by fostering the transmission of skills and information through education and training, the Texas Medical Center is a dynamic force in improving the delivery of health care. Each institution in the Medical Center adds strength to the others, thereby enhancing the development of the Medical Center as a whole.
Located in the geographic heart of the South Main area of Houston, the Texas Medical Center is adjacent to a diverse community that is rich in cultural, recreational and educational opportunities. Hermann Park, the Natural Science Museum, the Planetarium, the I-Max Theater, the Garden Center and Rice University are all only a few blocks from the Medical Center. The Coliseum, the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts, the Music Hall, Jones Hall, the Alley Theater, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Contemporary Arts Museum and the football, basketball and baseball arenas are within 30 minutes of the Medical Center
