A Message from the Chair
Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Residency Training Program of Baylor College of Medicine. Residents in our large, comprehensive program are engaged with faculty in diagnosing and treating an extensively broad and varied array of both common and unusual medical conditions of infants, children, and adolescents. Our program has trained thousands of community pediatricians, pediatric academicians and researchers, educators, child advocates, and leaders in pediatric medicine. We are equally proud of each and every one of them for helping to improve the health and wellbeing of children locally, nationally, and internationally.
Texas Children's Hospital is BCM’s primary affiliated pediatric teaching hospital. The largest children’s hospital in the United States, Texas Children’s serves more than 22,000 inpatients; 500,000 outpatients; and 85,000 emergency room visitors each year. Texas Children’s was one of only ten hospitals nationally designated by U.S. News and World Report in 2009 for Honor Roll status in pediatrics, ranking among America’s best in all ten specialty areas that were evaluated. BCM pediatric faculty members largely are based and practice at Texas Children’s. Trainees work in the inpatient and outpatient areas of Texas Children’s and numerous affiliated community-based ambulatory sites, as well as at the Ben Taub General Hospital of the Harris County Hospital District.
Despite its size, our Residency Training Program prides itself on recognizing and supporting each trainee as an individual with unique interests, capabilities, and needs. We never forget that our residents are an integral part of the lifeblood of our department and hospital.
There never has been a more exciting time to study pediatric medicine, and there is no better place than BCM and Texas Children’s to be part of cutting-edge patient care, research, and education that will impact millions of children’s lives in the years ahead. We invite you to consider joining us in our commitment to excellence and quest for preeminence in pediatrics.
