Clinical and Research Interests
|
- Dr. Friedman is Vice Chairman for Finance for the Department of Pediatrics and Clinical Director of the Pediatric Cardiology Clinic located at Texas Children’s Hospital. He is involved in the development of a hospital wide Outcomes Management Program with clinical practice guidelines and review of data with individual sections.
- He is participating in the development of a coordinated Transplant Services Administrative and Business Office that will encompass all transplant services within the institution, including renal, liver, lung, heart, and bone marrow.
- He supports the implementation of computerized, point of service billing using handheld wireless devices at the bedside/clinic.
- Clinically, Dr. Friedman is actively involved in evaluating the indications for implantations of automatic implantable defibrillators (AICDs) for life threatening arrhythmias in children with complex arrhythmias and adults who have undergone repair/palliation of their congenital heart disease.
- He is developing a national database/registry in order to discover the safety and efficacy of these devices. In addition, he is looking at the treatment of heart failure with newer pacing modes (biventricular) in complex congenital heart disease. He is also looking at the efficacy of beta-blockers and other agents for the treatment of Prolonged QT syndrome and other channelopathies.
