Facilities

The home of The Heart Center at Texas Children’s Hospital is divided among four floors of Texas Children’s new West Tower. This space is part of a $345 million expansion project that opened in July 2001 and added 1.2 million square feet to the campus. This Echocardiography Labexpansion allowed Pediatric Cardiology, Congenital Heart Surgery, and Pediatric Cardiovascular Anesthesia to come together in a unique space dedicated entirely to children with heart disease. The 15th floor contains the pediatric cardiology inpatient ward. Two cardiac catheterization suites, two operating suites, and the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit make up the 18th floor. The 19th floor holds the Helen B. Taussig Conference Center, the Dan G. McNamara Conference Center, the Heart Center Library and Learning Center and the offices for the pediatric cardiologists, the pediatric cardiac surgeons, the pediatric cardiovascular anesthesiologists, and the pediatric cardiology fellows. The 20th floor is filled by the clinic, the echocardiography laboratory, and the exercise laboratory.

Other clinical facilities utilized for the training program are the St Luke's Episcopal Hospital, structurally joined to Texas Children's, the pediatric service at  Ben Taub General Hospital, Texas Woman's Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Bellaire Hospital, Park Plaza Hospital, and Memorial-Hermann Southwest Hospital. The Cardiology faculty also sees outpatients in Northwest Houston, Clear Lake, Sugarland, Bryan, West Houston, and in the Kelsey-Seybold Clinic.

Baylor College of Medicine, Cullen BuildingThe Feigin Center opened in 2002, after being remodeled, as the dedicated research hub of the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's. Nine thousand square feet of the Feigin Center is dedicated to the Phoebe Willingham Muzzy Pediatric Molecular Cardiology Laboratory, the John Welsh Cardiovascular Diagnostic Laboratory, and the Developmental Research Laboratory. Other basic science laboratories are available for research training in the Cardiovascular Surgical Research Laboratory at the Texas Heart Institute and at Baylor College of Medicine. The Texas Children's General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) has been funded by the NIH for 38 years and has facilities for patient-oriented research.
