Texas Children's Hospital Fun Run
The Texas Children's Kids’ Fun Run is an annual, community-wide effort to promote physical activity in children and youth, including those with special healthcare needs. It is held in conjunction with the HP Houston Marathon weekend in January. The two-mile route for Texas Children’s Hospital Kids’ Fun Run is in downtown Houston, and the final portion of the race is actually part of the Houston Marathon route and finish line. Approximately 7,500 students in sixth through eighth grades from Houston-area school districts registered to participate this year. This is the second largest Fun Run for kids in the country. On race day, there have been several marathon race coordinators from all over the country that came to see how this event was orchestrated!
Every participant is a winner in the Fun Run. Each student received a t-shirt to wear on the day of the race as well as a medal when the finish line was crossed. Schools that have students participating in the Kids’ Fun Run also benefit. Texas Children’s Hospital gives each school who participates in the Run a recognition plaque as well as financial support for purchasing physical fitness equipment. Also, the school does not incur any cost for entering students in the race.
