Adolescent Medicine Fellowship

Medical studentsThe Adolescent Medicine fellowship offers clinical, teaching, research, and administrative training in preparation for an academic career. The fellowship is part of the five-year Leadership Education in Adolescent Health training grant awarded in 1997 and again in 2002 from the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources Service Administration. The program is one of seven programs in the United States funded to train the future leaders in Adolescent Medicine.

There are four physicians in the Adolescent Medicine and Sports Medicine Section: Albert C. Hergenroeder, M.D., Chief ; Mariam R. Chacko, M.D.; Amy B. Middleman, M.D., M.P.H., M.S.Ed.; Sharonda Alston-Taylor, M.D., and  Joseph N. Chorley, M.D., Drs. Hergenroeder, Chacko, Middleman, and Taylor are board certified adolescent medicine physicians and see patients in the Adolescent Medicine Clinic and Young Woman’s Clinic. Dr. Hergenroeder is board certified in sports medicine.  He and Dr. Chorley see patients in the Sports Medicine Clinic. There are also full-time faculty in social work, Gwendolyn J. Adam, Ph.D., L.M.S.W.-ACP; nutrition, Roberta H. Anding, M.S., RD/ LD, CDE, CSSD; and psychology, Jean S. Doak, Ph.D. We have a part-time faculty member in nursing, Brenda Binder, M.S.N., Ph.D. Graduate students in each of these disciplines, plus students from the University of Texas - Houston School of Public Health, with an interest in adolescent medicine, are trained in the LEAH program.
