Kamp K’aana is a two-week, residential, fun-based weight management camp that helps obese kids, who are 10 to 14 years of age, and their families make the lifestyle changes necessary to achieve their ideal weights
The camp team includes specialists from Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine with expertise in all aspects of weight management including nutrition, behavior therapy, psychology, pediatric medicine and exercise physiology. K’aana is an Alabama Coushatta Indian word meaning wellness and also stands for Kids Achieving Activity and Nutrition Awareness.
Children will attend a two-week sleep-away camp at Cho Yeh Camp & Conference Center in Livingston. Activities include swimming, horseback riding, pedal carts, soccer, basketball, lake fun (including water slide and blob), ropes courses, and rock wall. For one hour per day, children receive a lesson from a physician, dietitian or psychologist on how to change their habits, nutrition or activity. A healthy menu is served including a new fruit or vegetable each day.
Tuition is $1,400, which includes two-weeks of sleep-away camp, three followup reunions scheduled 3, 6 and 12 months after camp is over, T-shirts, and journals for the children to use during camp and afterwards. Financial assistance will be available to low-income families in need of assistance. Please call 832-822-4780 e-mail kaanateam@yahoo.com for more information.
