A welcome message from the Chair

Welcome to the website of the Department of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine. We are proud of our department’s long history of commitment to excellence in pediatric patient care, research, and education. With about 575 full-time faculty members and more than 350 trainees in general pediatrics and every recognized pediatric subspecialty, BCM’s Department of Pediatrics ranks as one of the nation’s largest, most diverse, and most successful pediatric programs. With annual research funding of more than $100 million, including about $40 million from the National Institutes of Health, BCM is helping to drive the clinical innovation that will transform pediatric health care.

Baylor College of Medicine has had a primary affiliation with Texas Children’s Hospital since the hospital opened its doors in 1954. BCM pediatric faculty members largely are based at and practice at Texas Children’s Hospital.

The largest children’s hospital in the United States, Texas Children’s was one of only ten hospitals nationally designated by U.S. News and World Report in 2009 for Honor Roll status in pediatrics, ranking among America’s best in all ten specialty areas that were evaluated, including kidney disorders (1st nationally), respiratory disorders (2nd), heart and heart surgery (3rd), cancer (4th), digestive disorders (4th), neurology and neurosurgery (5th), neonatal care (7th) and diabetes and endocrine disorders (9th).
