What's Going ’Round Right Now?

CAP No. 21093-30
CLIA No. 45D0927522

Urgent updates about viral activity will be posted here.

1/29/2008 -
Influenza (FLU) activity is increasing, with most isolates type A and a small number type B. FLU is expected to peak within the next 2 to 4 weeks.

RSV activity persists but appears to be declining as FLU activity increases.

Recent results of CDC FLU A subtyping of Houston/TCH Diagnostic Virology Lab influenza A viruses isolated during November and December 2007 were all typed

A/BRISBANE/10/2007-LIKE (H3N2)

which is a new genetic/antigenic variant not in the current flu vaccine. The current flu vaccine contains A/Wisconsin/67/2005, from which the circulating FLU A strain A/BRISBANE/10/2007-LIKE (H3N2) evolved recently.

Stay tuned for more updates on FLU activity and subtyping of our January 2008 FLU A strains and FLU B strains.
