Teaching/education, industry, business, consulting, management, technical/scientific writing, career counseling, scientific policy, intellectual property law, bioinformatics, clinical practice.

Establishing a Postdoc Symposium:

While most postdocs do not feel they need more opportunities to present their data, they would support a Postdoc Symposium or a Career Day/Recruiting fair.

[~285 responses]

Advisor/Baylor issues:

Most postdocs who responded have not had any major professional problems with their mentor. Those that have had problems (25) would not like an administrator or human resources to help mediate.

86% of postdocs have not had problems with VISA or other immigration/international office related issues.

Social activities:

Approximately half of the respondents would like to participate in the events suggested in the survey. Many people suggested other activities that they would be interested in.

Please see the Social events page for upcoming activities.

Other suggestions for social activities:

Theater, ballet, music performances, movie club, anything but spectator sports, art, literature, intercultural activities, a monthly happy hour, dance lessons, photography club, museums, sight-seeing tours of Houston, golf, aerobics, book club, Kuradi, opera, symphony, cooking club, paintball, biking, tai chi classes, pilates, yoga, mini sports tournaments between departments, tennis, running club at Hermann park, Toastmasters club, monthly dinners, international cooking club, and activities to improve English.

General Issues:

Most people though the PDA should focus on career development and benefits/salary, but not as much on mentor relations or social events.

Additionally, 32% of the respondents (81 people) would be willing to serve on the PDA executive committee.
