From 'The President's Weekly Update' of 2.26.07:
Postdoctoral Advisory Committee Endorses AAMC Compact Between Postdocs and their Mentors
The Postdoctoral Advisory Committee to the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences has been charged with enhancing the training, recruitment and career development of our research postdoctorals. The committee, a group of faculty and postdoctorals representing BCM departments and centers, is developing an elective curriculum for postdocs that will provide them with essential skills (grant writing, laboratory management, career development, etc.) to enhance their development as independent scientists. The committee is also charged with reviewing the definitions of postdoctoral trainees and the College’s appointment process to ensure that our policies are in line with NIH/NSF recommendations. As one of their first steps, the committee has endorsed the general principles outlined in the Compact between Postdocs and their Mentors <http://www.aamc.org/postdoccompact/> , a document which has been endorsed by the AAMC and the National Postdoctoral Association. BCM is fortunate to have both outstanding postdoctoral scientists and faculty mentors advancing our research mission.
From 'The President's Weekly Update' of 11.17.06:
Graduate School Position to Support Postdoctoral Trainees
I am very pleased to announce that Hiram F. "Gil" Gilbert, Ph.D., senior associate dean for the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, has been appointed to an additional position as associate dean for Academics and Postdoctoral Research. The newly created position, approved by the Academic Council, will coordinate research by BCM postdoctoral fellows. These trainees make significant contributions to BCM's research mission and are just one reason why the College remains a leader in this area.
