Program Description
The Molecular Genetic Pathology (MGP) fellowship is a 12-month training program designed for the education of up to two fellows per year. The Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) MGP program has clinical and basic science training components and is designed to integrate with the pathology residency and medical genetics fellowship programs.
Fellows will participate in core rotations in the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) Department of Molecular and Human Genetics (four months), Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) Department of Pathology (4.5 months), the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Division of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine (three months), and the Ben Taub General Hospital Department of Pathology (0.5 months). (A typical 12-month core rotation schedule)
Within each rotation, MGP fellows will rotate and visit specific laboratories but will have primary responsibilities in a single laboratory. For example, during the BCM Genetics rotation, fellows will be based in the DNA Diagnostic (molecular genetics) laboratory but will also rotate or participate in the Kleberg cytogenetics laboratory, the outpatient genetics clinics, and the inpatient genetics service. During the TCH Pathology core rotation, fellows will have an integrated experience in Molecular Microbiology, Molecular Neuropathology, and Molecular Pathology (Oncology) in the context of additional training in Pediatric Pathology.
During each hospital-based rotation, the fellows will have opportunities to participate in autopsies and cases in surgical pathology relevant to molecular genetic pathology. The rotation schedule will be designed so that the fellows are not concurrently assigned to the same rotations (two fellows in the program). Additional activities such as test development will take place during the core MGP rotations.
The typical 12-month schedule will include core rotations as outlined below:
PEDIATRIC MOLECULAR PATHOLOGY - Texas Children's Hospital; Department of Pathology; Molecular Microbiology, Neuropathology, and Pathology Laboratories (and autopsy/surgical pathology service) (4.5 months).

GENETICS - Baylor College of Medicine; Department of Molecular and Human Genetics; DNA Diagnostic Laboratory and Genetics Clinics (and other laboratories and clinical activities) (4 months).
