Research Interests
Heart is the first organ to form but continues to remodel postnatally to cope with the physiological changes encountered during and after birth. The postnatal remodeling requires developmental reprogramming from fetal to adult isoforms and is accomplished through dynamic networks of transcriptional and posttranscriptional changes including alternative splicing. I am interested in investigating whether regulation of splicing is a global rather than a restricted phenomenon and contributes to heart development. I am utilizing splicing microarrays, expression profiling and biocomputational screens to identify regulatory networks of alternative splicing during striated muscle development. My goals are to identify critical regulators of splicing in heart and the upstream signaling events that control these regulators. I expect that the results from this project will enhance our understanding towards the mechanisms regulating heart development and in turn provide molecular insights into cardiac pathogenesis.
