Perinatal and cardiac pathology, genetic and metabolic diseases and neoplasia are emphasized. During a second year, the fellow participates in research and a third year may be elected for those seeking an academic career. The faculty of 20 MD and PhD's provide expertise in all aspects of developmental pathology. It is active in the Children's Oncology Group, whose Rare Tumor Registry is housed here. Fellows participate in the teaching programs of the Baylor Department of Pathology, during which they supervise junior residents and medical students.
