Congratulations to Drs. Chris Finch and Vicky Gresik

The Annual End of the Year Dinner was held at for Residents and Fellows on Wednesday, June 10 th .  In recognition of her years of service and of teaching Pathology residents that the Clinical Pathology (CP) Faculty Teaching Award was renamed the Mary V. Gresik Clinical Pathology Faculty Teaching Award.  The 2008-2009 winners after voting by residents are:

Richard Sifers, Ph.D. Associate Professor awarded the Fulbright & Jaworski LLP Faculty Excellence Award - Teaching and Evaluation Fall 2008 and will be inducted into the Academy of Distinguished Educators

Rick Sifers, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Pathology, was the announced on December 05,2008 as the recipient of the Fulbright & Jaworski L. L. P. Faculty Excellence Award (in the category of Teaching and Evaluation) recognizes distinguished educators for their exemplary teaching contributions, mentoring and achievements (both locally and internationally).  He taught in both the medical and graduate schools at BCM and serve as a course co-director in the latter.  The award includes a 5 year membership in the Academy of Distinguished Educators and he will be inducted as a member at a luncheon on January 23, 2009.  In recent years, Dr. Sifers received awards as co-director for the best graduate course and best lecturer (for two consecutive years) in the BCM graduate school's core curriculum.  Please join us in congratulating him on the well deserved honors!

The Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson Jr. Award for Excellence in Education awarded to Vicky Gresik, M.D.

Vicky Gresik M.D., Professor, Pathology and Pediatrics, was selected as outstanding educators for 2008.  Each of these awardees has excellent teaching skills and is to be commended for their dedication to the training of our students. 

The Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education award will be presented at noon, Wednesday, April 30, 2008, in Cullen Auditorium. Following the awards presentation, David C. Leach, M.D., retired chief executive officer of the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education, will present the 2008 Education Awards Lecture. Dr. Leach is a nationally and internationally known educator who has led the way toward establishing competency-based education across the continuum of medical training.

Dr. Alice Chen Receives CAGT Faculty Teaching Award

Alice Chen, M.D., Ph.D. , assistant professor,  received the "Faculty Teaching Award" for the Alkek location of the Center for Cell and Gene Therapy at the Annual CAGT Conference held on Nov. 5th and 6th, 2007.  Members of the research labs vote on their work experience with each faculty member throughout the year.   Our congratulations to Dr. Chen on this honor!

 

 


Dr. Rick Sifers Receives 8-Stranded Beta-Barrel Jelly Roll "Best Lecturer" award

The "Best Lecturer" award represents one of the 8-Stranded Beta-Barrel Jelly Roll awards given to teachers of the core curriculum for the BCM Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.  Members of the first year class (from the previous year) vote for the three best lecturers that they had.  The 2007 Awardee is Rick Sifers, Ph.D., associate professor.  He taught the following classes "Organization of the Cell" and "Structure of Macromolecules" and is also a co-director of the first class.  Our congratulations to Dr. Sifers on this well deserved award!

 


Dr. Megan Dishop Receives Pediatric Excellence in Teaching Award

Mark Ward, director of the pediatric residency program, announced the first ever award by the Department of Pediatrics for Excellence in Teaching to a non-pediatrician at the Symposium on Pediatric Lung Disease was held on Friday, November 16th, in honor of Dr. Claire Langston.   The recipient for 2007 is Megan Dishop, M.D., assistant professor in Pathology.  The nominations came from pediatric faculty, fellows, and house staff.  This wonderful recognition was especially timely in view of the presence in the TCH auditorium of the distinguished speakers on lung development and disease in children with whom Drs. Langston and Dishop are collaborating.  Please congratulate Dr. Dishop on this honor.

 


Congratulations to Drs. Kathryn Pepple and Angshumoy Roy

The Milton J. Finegold Graduate Student Achievement Award 2006 was presented to Kathryn L. Pepple, M.D., Ph.D., (Graeme Mardon, Ph.D., mentor) and Angshumoy Roy, M.D., Ph.D., (Martin M. Matzuk, M.D., Ph.D., mentor) on Tuesday, September 25th. The award honors these individuals as the most outstanding graduate student who completed his/her dissertation with a faculty member of the Department of Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine. Please join us in congratulating these honorees on the well deserved award.
