General Information

The accelerated nature of the graduate-level curriculum offered by Baylor College of Medicine for students enrolled in the PA Program requires that applicants seeking admission provide adequate evidence of their ability to undertake an advanced course of study. When evaluating an applicant's readiness to matriculate in the PA Program, members of the Admissions Committee consider closely all information provided by the application with particular attention to the following elements:
· Courses taken in undergraduate school
· Science and non-science GPA
· Scores received on the Graduate Record Examination
· Responses to questions contained in the application references (from advisors, professors, and employers)
The admissions process focuses on identifying individuals with effective interpersonal skills capable of mastering the knowledge and skills required for responding to illness and injury in a reasoned manner.

Entering Class Profile

Based upon a review of demographic and academic information on applicants matriculated into the PA Program during 2009 entering class, the typical student was female, 26 years of age, from Texas, and had a bachelor's degree. The mean grade point average was 3.60 and the average GRE score was 1191 verbal and quantitative and 4.51 on the analytical. Potential applicants are encouraged to consider these data when preparing their applications for admission.

Preferences

Applicants seeking entry to the BCM PA Program are strongly encouraged to complete a medical terminology course prior to matriculation as the technical language of medicine can initially alter ones reading speed and rate of comprehension.
Applicants are likewise encouraged to develop the skills required to use basic computer hardware and software programs along with Internet search strategies as much of the curriculum is accessed via an online course management system.
