Continuing Medical Education

The purpose of continuing medical education is to optimize patient care. To this end, programs should provide the most up to date information and strategies for physicians and nonphysician clinicians. The challenge for educators is to devise CME programs that are highly accessible to practicing care providers that will have an immediate and effect on practitioners' behavior, and that are financially viable.

Studies of CME have shown that the most effective programs for knowledge translation in these circumstances involve what is known as active-mode learning, which relies on interactive, targeted, and multifaceted techniques. The learning modules presented below are intended to provide such a multifaceted approach to cancer risk assessment and risk management.
