Diffusion Network

In addition to the above collaborating institutions, the newly established Physician Assistant Program at University Of Texas Laredo is being considered for the PACE project.

The formal diffusion network established for the project includes expert early innovators serving on a Cancer Content Committee, institutional linking agents serving on the Diffusion Steering Committee, and early adopter institutions collaborating as PACE innovation sites. The diffusion network will be managed by J. David Holcomb, Ed.D., Professor, Allied Health Sciences, and Senior Vice President and Dean, School of Allied Health Sciences. He will be assisted by Carl Fasser, PA, Professor of Family and Community Medicine and Director of the PA Program, Laurel Spence, MS, PA-C, Instructor, Allied Health Sciences and Maternal and Child Health coordinator with the PA Program, and Robert McLaughlin, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Allied Health Sciences, with primary responsibilities for developing the motivational interviewing component of the PACE curriculum. Robert Chamberlain, Ph.D., Director, Cancer Prevention Education and Ashbel Smith professor of Epidemiology at The University of Texas/MD Anderson Cancer Center, will serve as a consultant, providing expert guidance in evaluation.

Cancer Content Committee -This multidisciplinary committee chaired by Maria Jibaja-Weiss, Ed.D., associate professor of Family and Community Medicine, will assist in identifying cancer content for integration into the existing curriculum, primarily in six courses. Other Cancer Committee members include:

  • Michael Coburn, M.D., Baylor College of Medicine, associate professor of Urology—prostate cancer content specialist;
  • Cathy Montoya, M.L.S., director, Baylor College of Medicine Educational Resource Center technology deployment specialist;
  • Maura Polansky, M.S., PA-C, director, Physician Assistant Postgraduate Program in Oncology, The University of Texas/M.D. Anderson Cancer Center—cancer content specialist;
  • Lorraine Potocki, M.D., director of the Genetics Clinic at the Harris County Hospital District’s Ben Taub General Hospital—cancer genetics specialist;
  • Robert Evans, PA-C, physician assistant, Department of Urology at MD Anderson Cancer Center;
  • Mamta Kalidas, M.D., assistant professor, Baylor College of Medicine, Breast Center; and
  • Lynn Yeoman, Ph.D., professor, Baylor College of Medicne of Pharmacology and director, Education Resource Center will serve as liaison between CATCHUM and the proposed project.

Diffusion Steering Committee -The Steering Committee comprised of the directors of the seven Texas PA training programs will be chaired by Dennis Blessing, Ph.D., Director of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, PA Program. The other members are:

  • Frank Ambriz, PA-C, director of The University of the Texas-Pan American PA Program;
  • Carl Fasser, PA, director of Baylor College of Medicine Physician Assistant Program;
  • Venetia Orcutt, MBA, PA-C, director of The University of Texas Southwestern PA Program;
  • Henry Lemke, M.M.S., director of The University of North Texas PA Program;
  • Edward Maxwell, PA-C, director of the Texas Tech University PA Program; and
  • Richard Rahr, Ed.D., director of The University of Texas Medical Branch PA Program.
