Tuition and Fee Assessment

Medical Students

Traditional Students

Writing a checkAll students who start and complete their program of study at Baylor College of Medicine are required to pay four years' tuition charges. This also applies to students who complete the program in less than four years. Students who meet degree requirements in less than four years will pay the difference between four years' charges and the amount already paid. Payment will be billed in the final semester of enrollment.

Transfer Students

Transfer students enroll for two years of clinical work and are required to pay two years' of tuition charges. This also applies to students who complete degree requirements in less than two years. Students who meet degree requirements in less than two years will pay the difference between two years' charges and the amount already paid. Payment will be billed in the final semester of enrollment.

Medical School Research Track Students

This five-year program is for medical students who desire increased exposure to basic or clinical research. The student will spend a full year conducting basic or clinical research between years two and three of medical school. During years 1, 2, 4 and 5, students are charged as traditional first, second, third and forth year medical students, respectively. During the research year, MSRT students are paid a stipend and receive a scholarship which covers tuition and the Facility Fee. Students are responsible for the Education Resource Center Fee, Malpractice insurance, Yearbook fee, Student Activity Fee and personal health insurance.

M.D./Ph.D. Students

Students complete two years of medical school prior to starting the Ph.D. portion of their program. After completing the Ph.D., these students return to medical school for one or more years. They are charged only for the semesters they attend, and are not required to pay four years of medical school tuition. Students who entered the Ph.D. portion of the program after completing only one year of medical school will complete two or more years of medical school after completing the Ph.D.

M.D./MBA Students

  1. Students who enter the MBA portion of the program after attending two years and one and a half months of medical school.

    Only malpractice insurance (two months charges) and the yearbook fee are assessed for the first month and a half of the third year (July 1 - Aug. 15). Students then enroll at Rice for the period Aug. 16 - May 31, and are considered less-than-half-time at BCM. They pay only the malpractice insurance premium (for nine months). The student returns to Baylor full time for the period June 1 - June 30 as a third year. One month of malpractice insurance is charged.

    During the next academic year, the student is enrolled full time at Baylor for the period July 1 - August 15. The students is charged $1,500 (if a Texan) or $3,500 (if not a Texan) tuition and 2 months malpractice insurance. The student returns to Rice on August 16 and is considered less-than-half-time at Baylor for the period August 16 - December 31. The student returns to BCM in January as a third year and is charged half the Curriculum Materials fee, all third year student spring fees and the Yearbook fee. All standard fourth year medical school charges will be assessed in the final year of medical school.
  2. Students who enter the MBA portion of the program after attending three years and one and a half months of medical school.

Students then enroll at Rice for the period Aug. 16 - May 31, and are considered less-than-half-time at BCM. They pay only the malpractice insurance premium (for nine months). The student returns to BCM in January as a fourth year and is charged half the curriculum ,materials fee, all fourth year student spring fees, the graduation fee and the yearbook fee.

Allied Health Students

Physician Assistant and Nurse Anesthesia Students

PA and NA students are required to pay two and a half years' tuition charges. Students who meet degree requirements in less than that time will pay the difference between two and a half years' charges and the amount already paid. Payment will be due at the beginning of the last semester of enrollment.

Ph.D. Students

Ph.D. Students are charged for the time they are in attendance. If a Ph.D. student completes his/her program in three and a half years, only three and a half years of tuition is charged. The graduation dates for these students are determined by the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Students matriculating in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences have their tuition and health insurance paid by the school or department. Some departments pay all student fees for the student and in other departments the student must pay some or all of their fees. Each student is financially responsible for all fees assessed to his/her account that are not paid by the department.

All Students

Students who repeat coursework or otherwise extend their enrollment beyond the four, two and a half or two year length of their programs will be charged tuition and fees for each additional semester of enrollment. Title IV Federal financial aid recipients who meet degree requirements prior to the end of the semester will be subject to the Return of Title IV Funds Policy. All other students will be subject to the Institution's Refund and Repayment Policy.

Students who return from an approved leave of absence, or otherwise begin attending after the start of a semester, will be charged tuition and fees for the number of months remaining in the semester. A month's charges will be assessed if the student returns/enters prior to the sixteenth of the month. Yearbook, graduation, documentation and curriculum resource (third year MS only) fees are not pro-rated, and graduation fees are only charged once for each program the student completes.

Students who go on an approved leave of absence during the academic year may continue their health insurance while on leave. Payment will be due before the student starts his/her LOA.

Students who withdraw, are dismissed or otherwise cease to be a student at Baylor College of Medicine are allowed to continue their health insurance for no more than three months. Payment must be made prior to the date the student ceases to be enrolled.

Students who withdraw, are dismissed or otherwise cease to be a student at Baylor College of Medicine must clear their financial account at the college prior to getting a signature of clearance from the Student Account Services Office. If the department has advised the student that the department is paying certain fees, the student is responsible for obtaining a charge source from the student’s program before the clearance form will be signed by the Student Account Services Office. When a student is clearing his/her balance upon checkout, the student must pay their balance using cash, money order or credit card. Student Account Services does not accept checks from students as final payment for clearing a balance due when leaving the college.

All tuition and fee payments are due 15 days from first billing. First and Second year Medical Students will be due Sept 1. All other students will have tuition and fees due Aug. 1. for the first half of the academic year. For the second half of the academic year all students will have tuition and fees due Feb. 1 (the January billing). An e-bill will be sent to the student's BCM e-mail address 15 days or sooner prior to the deadline. Students are responsible for paying with negotiable checks or valid credit cards. Students and former students who have not met their financial obligation to the College will have a flag placed on their academic records. Students requesting any documentation requiring verification of attendance and/or a transcript are required to contact Student Account Services in regard to their obligation before documentation and/or transcript will be released. All delinquent accounts are reported to the dean's Office and senior director, Student Affairs for further review.
