Educational Goals Statement

The goal of the educational program at Baylor College of Medicine is to provide the highest quality educational experience in the art and science of medicine and to foster the drive for excellence among all students.
The College is committed to educate men and women to become compassionate physicians and health professionals with high ethical standards, technical competence and dedication to deliver the highest quality of care to all people. The program should inspire students to become leaders in their fields, to help provide the knowledge base for new treatment strategies, and to develop new approaches to the delivery of health services, disease prevention, and health maintenance.
To achieve these goals, the program is structured so that basic concepts are taught, and it is sufficiently flexible to allow students to develop and pursue their own interests in greater depth. It should encourage students to seek additional training in the basic or clinical sciences, to participate in advance degree programs such as the M.D./Ph.D. program, or M.D./M.B.A. program, to conduct research and to enroll in pre-doctoral fellowship programs.
Medical School graduates should be prepared to pursue careers as primary care physicians, specialists, research scientists, academic physicians, and physician leaders in public health policy. School of Allied Health Sciences graduates should be prepared to pursue clinical careers in their respective fields, participate in research and become leaders in their professions and contribute to their communities.
