Emergency Medicine Interest Group

The Emergency Medicine Interest Group exists to promote the specialty of Emergency Medicine at Baylor through service, education and leadership, but encourages those interested in all other specialties as well! The group runs procedure and suture labs throughout the year allowing students to practice important clinical skills such as blood draws, starting IVs, placing chest tubes, airway management and suturing.

EMIG members will also have the opportunity to participate in the work-study program in the Ben Taub Emergency Center where students will gain valuable clinical experience while earning $15/hr in Federal Work-study funds. In addition, EMIG recruits and manages the AHA BLS and ACLS instructors for Baylor’s curriculum, as well as providing free CPR classes to the great Houston community. Student members of EMIG are eligible to ride along with Houston EMS to experience pre-hospital care, or volunteer their time to help the less fortunate with the Patient Education Initiative in the Ben Taub Emergency Room.

EMIG enjoys some of the best faculty support of any student group and students are encouraged to get involved with research and national leadership opportunities; the group attends two national conferences (SAEM and ACEP) each year. We have monthly lectures on topics in Emergency Medicine, always followed by plenty of time for socializing.
