Emergency Medicine Interest Group
The Emergency Medicine Interest Group is dedicated to informing BCM students of the specifics of choosing a specialty in emergency medicine.
"Emergency Medicine involves the immediate care of urgent and life-threatening conditions found in the critically ill and injured. These physicians are really specialists in breadth - their broad-based training encompasses acute problems that span several clinical disciplines. No other specialty can match the astounding variety of patients found within the emergency room. Emergency physicians see, hear, and smell things that most doctors will not." (Freeman. The Ultimate Guide to Choosing a Medical Specialty. Pp 181. McGraw-Hill 2004)
EMIG has the role of helping students connect with EM as a specialty choice. This is done through bi-monthly meetings, occasional workshops, and providing a network of information.
This web site provides information about ucoming EMIG events, general information about EM as a specialty, hints for the application process, and links to other EM organizations that are helpful for medical students interested in emergency medicine.
