Biography

Walter R. Lowe, M.D., is associate professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, with an emphasis on diagnosing and treating a wide range of knee, shoulder and elbow injuries and disorders. He serves as a team physician for the Houston Texans, The University of Houston, Houston Baptist University and many area high schools.

Dr. Lowe earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston. He completed his internship in general surgery at John Peter Smith Hospital, followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery at Tarrant County Affiliated Hospitals, both in Fort Worth, Texas. He completed fellowship training in sports medicine at the renowned Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles. Dr Lowe spent a year studying under the famous sports medicine baseball surgeon, Dr. Frank Jobe.

As a fellow at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic, Dr. Lowe served as an assistant team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Lakers, and California Angels. He has also served as the team physician consultant for the U.S. Freestyle Ski Team.

Dr. Lowe is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and also holds a subspecialty certification in sports medicine.

His professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (Fellow), American College of Sports Medicine (Fellow), NFL team Physicians Society, and ACL study Group.
